
This is a problem as most chefs do not appreciate food bloggers. Jo has gone to NYC to be a journalist, but that hasn’t quite planned out, so she is paying the bills as a food blogger and a prep chef. All of the four sisters are grown and only Meg is close to their mom in proximity in North Carolina. This was such a great book! It has been a while since I read Little Women, so I really enjoyed this modern retelling that focused on sisters Meg and Jo. These updates did help move the story along and still managed to get the original message of Little Women across - namely, the importance of family and sisterhood. March is an Iraq War vet and Army chaplain, Marmee runs a goat farm.

The update to the plot was clever in many places though - having the story set in North Carolina, Meg is an accountant and John is a high school teacher and coach, Bhaer is a chef, Mr. Even when I was reading things from her first person narrative chapters, I was always siding with the OTHER person when Jo was in conflict - didn't matter who it was, Aunt March, Meg, Amy, Bhaer - Jo just seemed selfish and awful. I was disappointed with the modern characterizations of most of the main characters, especially Mr. They're seriously one of my favorite couples in all of literature). I wonder whether I would have liked this book more had I not JUST read Little Women (and feel very strongly about Meg and John. When their mother gets sick over the holidays, the sisters come home to help run the farm while she is ill. Jo is a prep cook and food blogger in New York City.

Meg is married to her dream husband John, has two darling toddlers, and lives in the perfect suburb. Meg and Jo is a modern re-interpretation of the classic Little Women, focusing on the older two March sisters (the sequel for Beth and Amy is forthcoming).
